Microsoft Office, don’t need of any introduction, A well know, very helpful and a must required software program for all home and office PC users, don’t matter you are using PC or a MAC. I can only say it is the best friend of an employee, a Student, an entrepreneur or whatever we are. It can help you to sort out the hardest problems from your work in few easy steps.

From the very first version of MS Office, Microsoft continuously understand the user needs and keeps improving the Office suite. And on the behalf of continuous R&D work, market requirement and user demands Microsoft recently released the Office 2010 suite’s Technical Preview, the latest member of Office suite and I bet, the best & the most fantastic.

It’s the 14th version of Office suite and the first one to be available in both x86 & x64 flavors. so, lets take a look on its new features and functions. (though the list is quite big, so i am adding only some in this article).

MS-Office 2010 TP suite includes the following applications

Word 2010

Excel 2010

PowerPoint 2010

Outlook 2010

OneNote 2010

Publisher 2010

Access 2010

InfoPath 2010

Office Communicator 2007 R2

SharePoint Workspace 2010

Visio 2010

The Installation and Setup process is quite easy, almost same as of Office 2007. You can either do a fresh installation or if you have any previous version installed then there is an option for upgrade too. (click for more details on Office 2010 upgrade options.)

Office 2010 got the New Startup Screen, now we have option to minimize or close the start up screen, the animation below is awesome, we also get the details about the loading of word items at startup like about documents, add-ins, plug-ins etc.

The new program window, have customizable Ribbon UI, the new office button, more text formatting options and new ruler design.

The Whole new Outspace, we can say that it is the new File menu, where you find all common file options and all with previews. you can select save, print, share and program(uses word 2010 for demo) options from this window. the outsapce is divided in to three parts viz. the options pane, the properties pane and the preview pane.

The new Save as types, with office 2010 you can save your work in various type of file formats according to your need ans ease, now there is no need to install third party document convertors. And if you are using Windows 7, then you’ll get the facility of saving your document in the default MS Office programs folders (Check the sidebar, above Favorites).

The new Customize options, now you’ll get more application customization options, customize the Ribbon Shortcuts easily according to your ease. to use options, click on office button and then click on application name(like word, stated above) in the outspace.

The new save changes pop-up, the new pop-up provides the more details then before about the current status of the file, when you’re closing the document without saving it.

The new Video Trimming option, In Powerpoint 2010 you can now easily trim videos that you’ve inserted in your presentation slides. To trim video, right click on video and then select the trim video option.

The new Paste options, Now you can preview your copied text before pasting it, there are three paste options, you can either keep the source formatting or you can paste it as simple plain text. this option surely saves a lot of time which was wasted to remove the source formatting in certain conditions.

With Office 2010, you’ll surely start enjoying your documentation work. Well, it is in Technical Preview stage, a lot of development work is still remaining. Much more to go, now Technical Preview, then Beta and after that RTM build will be available. It will be expected to release in Mid of 2010.

you can complete the upgrade process by choosing from one of three options available there :

You may remove all the previous versions first and then get new one installed.

you can also keep the previous versions and get the 2010 installed separately.

you’ll get the list of all programs of Office that are already on your system and then you can select the programs of your choice to remove. like you can keep word 2007 and remove Excel 2007 & get 2010 installed.

If you have multiple network adapters in your computer and you configure a default gateway for each adapter (which creates a default route in the IP routing table for all destinations that are not located on the subnet), information on your network might not be routed to the correct destinations if you connect to disjoint networks—separate networks that are not designed to communicate directly.

Only a single gateway is used for all destinations that are not located on the subnet, even when you configure multiple default gateways. An example of this is when a computer is connected to both an intranet with multiple subnets and the Internet. With a default gateway configured for both adapters, you can either communicate with all computers on the Internet or all computers on the intranet, but not both.

To solve this problem, do the following:

Configure a default gateway for the network adapter that’s connected to the network with the most routes (usually the network adapter that’s connected to the Internet).

Don’t configure a default gateway for any other network adapter. Instead, use static routes or dynamic routing protocols to add the routes for the other disjoint networks to the local IP routing table. If the routing infrastructure uses Routing Information Protocol (RIP) for IPv4, you can turn on RIP Listener in Windows, which allows your computer to learn other routes on the network by “listening” to broadcast RIP messages, and then adding IPv4 routes to the routing table. If the routing infrastructure doesn’t use RIP, you can’t use RIP listening.

To configure a default gateway

Go to Control Panel and then open Network and Sharing Center, then click on Change adapter Settings option in the left pane.

Right-click the network adapter that you want to configure a default gateway for, and then click Properties. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation(depend on UAC level).

Click the Networking tab.

Under This connection uses the following items, click either Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) or Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6), and then click Properties.

In the dialog box that appears, select either Obtain an IP address automatically or Use the following IP address.

If you configure the network adapter to obtain an IP address automatically, the default gateway is assigned by the DHCP server. If you specify an alternate configuration (IPv4 only), the default gateway is the IP address in the Default gateway box on the Alternate Configuration tab. You can only specify one default gateway.

If you manually specify an IP address configuration, the default gateway is the IP address in the Default gateway box on the General tab.

To turn on RIP Listener

Go to Control Panel, then open Programs and Features.

In the left pane, click Turn Windows features on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Select the RIP Listener check box, and then click OK.

You can also manually configure the IPv4 & IPv6 settings.

A runtime error is a software or hardware problem that prevents a program from working correctly. Runtime errors might cause you to lose information in the file you’re working on, cause errors in the file (corrupt the file) so you can’t work with it, or prevent you from using a feature. Unlike stop errors, runtime errors don’t typically cause Windows or a program to stop working.

Runtime errors can occur if you are running two software programs that aren’t compatible, if your computer has memory problems, or if the computer has been infected with malicious software. If a runtime error keeps occurring, follow these steps:

Install the latest updates for Windows and for the program displaying the error. Note that the update for the program might be listed as an optional update on the Windows Update page.

Click Start button then show all programs and open Windows Update.

Check Action Center for a solution to the program displaying the error.

When you have Windows Error Reporting turned on and a program stops working, a problem report is typically sent to Microsoft for more analysis. If a solution is available, or there are steps you can take to minimize the likelihood of the problem recurring, they’ll be available in Action Center.

Click to Flag icon in Notification area to open Action Center.

Update and run your antivirus software. Windows doesn’t come with antivirus software, but Action Center can often monitor the antivirus software that you or your computer manufacturer have installed.

Make sure your computer has at least the minimum amount of random access memory (RAM) required to run the program that is displaying the error. Look for the program requirements online or in the packaging information.

If you notice a process is reducing your computer’s performance, because it either uses a high percentage of central processing unit (CPU) resources or a large amount of random access memory (RAM). You can use Task Manager to end the process. However, you should try closing your open programs to see if the process ends before using Task Manager to end the process.

Warning

Be careful when ending processes. If you end a process associated with an open program, such as a word-processing program, that program will also close and you will lose any unsaved data. If you end a process associated with a system service, some part of the system might not function properly.

Right click on Task Bar to open Task Manager.

Click the Processes tab to see a list of all the processes that are currently running under your user account and a description of each process. To view all of the processes currently running on the computer, click Show processes from all users. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click a process, and then click End Process.

Notes

To see if any services are running in a particular process, such as svchost.exe, right-click a process and then click Go to Services. Any services associated with the process are highlighted on the Services tab. If you don’t see any highlighted services, then the process doesn’t have any services associated with it.

To view more information about any process running in Task Manager, right-click the process, and then click Properties. In the Properties dialog box, you can view information about the process, including the location and size. Click the Details tab to view detailed information about the process.
